Pasta is off the menu on keto unless you make your own egg noodles or swap spaghetti for spiralized zucchini.

However, just because you can’t eat real pasta doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some Italian-style meals on the low-carb ketogenic diet.

This recipe for keto meatballs has a strong Italian flavor but is low in carbs, so it won’t ruin your diet. It’s also filling, high in protein, and amazingly tasty. You’re going to love it!

Make these keto meatballs for a satisfying family dinner. Served with lots of fresh vegetables, you’ll probably forget you are even on a diet.

Keto Meatballs

Ingredients For Four Servings

  • meatballs ingredients1lb ground beef
  • ¾ cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ tablespoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1¾ cups canned tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 7 oz fresh spinach
  • 2 oz butter
  • 5 oz fresh mozzarella cheese
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Put the meat, parmesan cheese, egg, salt, and spices in a bowl and mix by hand. Form the mixture into 16 one-ounce balls.
  2. In a frying pan, heat the olive oil and then brown the meatballs.
  3. Reduce the heat, add the canned tomatoes and parsley, and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Season with salt and pepper as needed.
  4. In a separate pan, melt the butter and wilt the spinach for 1-2 minutes. Season with salt and pepper as required.
  5. Add the spinach to the meatballs and then serve.
  6. Tear the mozzarella into chunks and spread over the meatballs.

  • 628 calories
  • 49 grams of fat
  • 39 grams of protein
  • 8 grams of carbs
  • 3 grams of fiber
  • 5 grams of net carbs

Bottom Line

Meatballs and sauce are an Italian classic. It’s savory and satisfying – a real comfort food. However, a lot of store-bought meatballs contain breadcrumbs, which gives them a pleasant texture but also adds unwanted carbs.

These keto-friendly meatballs are 100% beef and all but carb-free. Served with the superfoods spinach and tomatoes, they’re very nutritious.

They’re also very high in protein, which means they’re the perfect after-training meal for exercisers.

Not a fan of ground beef? No problem! You can also make this recipe with ground turkey or even pork. However you make them, you’ll love this keto meatball recipe.
