    • Keto Meat Pie

Sweet and savory pies are one of life’s pleasures. Unfortunately, they’re also a no-go on keto. Pies are made with varying amounts of pastry, and one of the main ingredients in pastry is wheat flour. Wheat flour is very high in carbs.

Before you give up on the idea of eating pies ever again or quit keto for good, you’ll probably be very relieved to hear that it is possible to make a keto-friendly pie that won’t derail your fat loss diet.

Don’t feel deprived on keto; add this comfort food favorite to your low-carb ketogenic diet.

Keto Meat Pie

Ingredients For Six Servings

For The Filling

  • putting meat inside the pie½ white or yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1¼ lbs. ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons tomato puree
  • ½ cup water

For The Pastry

  • ¾ cup almond flour
  • ¼ cup sesame seeds
  • ¼ cup coconut flour
  • 1 tablespoon ground psyllium husk powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup water

For The Topping

  • 1 cup cottage cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit/175 degrees centigrade.
  2. Put the butter in a large frying pan on a medium heat. Add the onion and cook for 2-3 minutes before adding and browning the meat. Add the garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper. Cook for 8-10 minutes.
  3. Add the tomato puree and water and then simmer for a further 20 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, put the pastry ingredients in a food processor and combine. Alternatively, you can mix by hand.
  5. Press the pastry dough into a 9 to 10-inch greased pie dish. Prick the base of the pastry with a fork to stop it from rising unevenly.
  6. Bake the pastry crust for 10 minutes.
  7. Remove the pie crust from the oven, and then add the meat. Spread the mixture evenly.
  8. In a small bowl, combine the cottage and shredded cheddar cheese. Spread over the top of your pie.
  9. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until brown and golden.
  10. Cut into six slices and serve.

Bottom Line

This pie might be somewhat unconventional, but it’s still delicious. Easy (if a little time-consuming) to make, it’s 100% keto-friendly and, unlike most pies, could actually help you lose weight.

Not a fan of ground beef? No problem! You can shake up this recipe by using ground pork, turkey or lamb. You could also pack it with roast veggies to make a vegetable pie.

Once you’ve made it, serve with mashed cauliflower for a keto pie and mash dinner, or allow it to cool and enjoy it cold with a salad or on its own for a substantial snack.

However you serve this pie, you’re going to love it!
