Buñuelos are fried dough fritters popular in South and Latin America. Variations are also found in southwest Europe, Africa, and Asia.

Made with wheat flour and sugar and usually topped with honey or syrup, buñuelos are delicious but are definitely NOT keto-friendly.

Traditionally made at Christmas, Ramadan, and at Hanukkah, these buñuelos fritters have a long and storied history. It would be a shame not to be able to eat them just because you’re on a ketogenic weight loss diet.

This recipe for keto buñuelos is low in carbs but still tastes great.

Keto Buñuelos

Ingredients For Eight Servings

  • 2 cups coconut oil
  • 1 cup fine ground almond flour
  • 2 tablespoon ground psyllium husk powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg
  • ¼ cup erythritol
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • ½ cup cream cheese
  • 2 large eggs

Instructions

  1. Heat the coconut oil in a 10-inch skillet.
  2. some buñuelos in a bowlCombine the almond flour, psyllium husks, salt, nutmeg, baking soda, and erythritol in a bowl.
  3. Crumble the feta and add it to the dry mixture.
  4. Add the cream cheese and eggs and fold them into the dry ingredients.
  5. From the dough, form eight equal-sized balls and then drop them into the oil. Cook for 2-3 minutes until browned, and then turn them over and cook for another two minutes.
  6. Continue until all the dough is cooked.
  7. Dust with a bit of powdered erythritol, and then serve while still warm.

  • 8 grams of protein
  • 4 grams of carbs
  • 2 grams of fiber
  • 2 grams of net carbs

Bottom Line

There are lots of interpretations of buñuelos fritters, and they vary from region to region. Some are savory, while others are sweet, but they’re all high in carbs and delicious!

These low-carb buñuelos fritters are based on a Mediterranean recipe that has been modified for the ketogenic diet. Sugar-free, gluten-free, low in carbs, and high in fat, they are the perfect keto confectionary.

Keto buñuelos are easy to make and utterly delicious. Whip up a batch for breakfast or have them for a dessert or snack. They taste best warm but, in all honestly, they’re pretty good cold too!

Serves: 8 Buñuelos
Cooking time: 3 minutes
